Handkerchief Dress and Nostalgia…

Dress: O’Neill | Bag: Sun ‘n Sand | Shoes: Marc Fisher | Sunglasses: BP | Lipstick: Bite Beauty (in Leche)

This little handkerchief dress was so breezy and kept me cool while taking these photos. Although, I’m sure if you zoom in enough you can see the sweat dripping off my face… The heat here in Miami has been horrible, and it’s definitely because it’s the height of summer. While I hate when it rains (which is every day), I almost find myself hoping for rain to take away some of the heat from the beating sun, but with the rain comes humidity- so really there is no winning here.

With this horrendous heat, I find myself reminiscing on my fall and winter trips to New York City and have been missing the city so much lately. I’m not sure what exactly sparked it, but it could be that I work in a metropolitan downtown area in Miami called Brickell and it is like any downtown in that it has the walkability and shops you would need within a 2 mile radius, but it just doesn’t compare to the mogul that is NYC. At work I am in contact with people every day who live and work in the city. I set up meetings for people, invite people to events, and send packages to their NYC address- and it just makes me miss it so much. It doesn’t help that my favorite co-worker is moving to NYC next week, or that my best friend Audrey is back visiting the city right this moment. I find myself continually drawn back to it. Once I get there I never want to leave. Once I feel the fall breeze in Central Park (there is just nothing like it) or pass the muddy and melted snow/ice on the side of the street or see a patch of green in a sea of gray buildings I find myself falling in love with the city all over again. I’ve never lived there, but always dreamed of it. I know not everything is as it seems, and so many friends have moved to the city and ended up not loving it like they thought they would, but all I know is what I feel, and now more than ever I yearn to be back in New York. I miss my family in Jersey and the friends I have made through Audrey. I miss it all.

On a sweeter and less nostalgic note, this dress is on sale at the moment (and so are my favorite shoes!) and is so cute and flowy. I loved twirling around in it and it kept me so much cooler than anything I’ve worn in awhile. Full disclosure, it is a pretty thin fabric, so be careful when choosing underwear and maybe throw on a slip underneath. If not, it also makes for a perfect beach coverup! I went minimalist for this one and decided on no jewelry. I think the dress and bag really speak for themselves, and sometimes it’s nice to just be simple with the look and not have too much going on.
